Director’s Message

It is once again my pleasure to present the Director’s Annual Report which provides an overview of the many accomplishments we have had at the WRDSB during the past year.

As you will see from the stories on this site, we have remained focused on our strategic plan and our operational goals of strengthening mathematics, creating pathways to graduation and success for each and every student, and promoting and furthering student and staff well-being.

You will see in the report the work we do in partnership with all of our stakeholders, be it families and caregivers, staff or retirees, or community partners, as we work together to ensure our students experience success. Achieving our goal of an 85% graduation rate would not have been possible without the work that all of our stakeholders have done at every level of our system.

The Board of Trustees plays a critical role in the process as they represent the broader community in important dialogue promoting public education for our region.

We understand the foundational nature of equity and human rights and from the classroom to the boardroom we are identifying and addressing the barriers our students, staff and families face. There is more work to do but we are committed to addressing discrimination and racism, and creating safer, more equitable, more inclusive working and learning environments. As a system, we will continue to grow our equity consciousness.

Our schools and classrooms must be ever-evolving to help best prepare students for success on their chosen pathways after graduation. Our purpose as a public school board is to inspire our staff to see the potential in every student, and to help our students imagine these futures for themselves.

As we look ahead to 2020, we are full of optimism and pride in our organization. We are preparing students who will be future leaders and we look forward to all that we will achieve together in the next year and for many after.
