School Councils: Dedicated to Supporting Students

School Councils in the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) play an integral role, as they provide the direct voice and connection to the community we serve every day. They are the champions of their schools – working diligently to fundraise and support the learning of our students.

Our school councils’ enrich their school communities in a variety of innovative ways. From hosting family science nights and wellness fairs, to greening projects that bring more trees, and natural shade, to playgrounds. The work they do has a clear impact on the communities they serve.

School council members’ fundraising efforts are as creative as they are generous. Dance-a-thons, spaghetti dinner nights, funfairs and other events build community, engage students and help to support valuable programs in their school. In total, WRDSB school councils raised more than $900,000 to support their students and school.

To every member of our school councils, I want to say thank you for your leadership. Your efforts help to make our schools the remarkable places they are and support our students in their learning – each and every day.
