2021 DIRECTOR’S ANNUAL REPORT

As I take some time to reflect on 2021,
I see a year of continued and renewed
challenge, but also a year of continued
and renewed growth and determination.
Though we were faced with a number
of switches from in-person to remote
learning, we saw our staff and community
coming together, exercising creativity and
innovation to support students’ continued
learning and growth.

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for the work of all in the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) in 2021. Though we faced another year full of challenges in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, we can be proud of what we achieved. In support of student achievement and well-being, the Board of Trustees continued to serve as the voice of our community, helping to guide our system through the unknown. This year’s annual report is a fitting tribute to all that we accomplished together over these past 12 months.

2021 was a year of change and resilience. Continuing to face the challenges of the pandemic, it is essential that the WRDSB places student success and well-being at the forefront of every decision.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES AND COMMITMENTS

As we look back on 2021, it is clear to see that while it was a year of immense challenge and difficulty for all in our community, it once again demonstrated the dedication and commitment of all of those in the WRDSB. Though our year was again affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone – our students, our staff and our community – adapted and rose to the occasion. Whether students are learning remotely at home, or in-person at one of our schools, we continue to build pathways to success for all of our students.

Operational Goals

We are committed to a culture of transparency and accountability. We recognize that achieving the desired outcomes of our strategic plan will require much more than developing goals and establishing targets. Our ability to monitor the implementation of our work and make use of evidence and data to inform our decisions and strategies will be central to the effective completion of our strategic plan.

In addition to making consistent use of evidence and data to monitor our work, we will prioritize the wellness of our staff and students. We will work collaboratively to improve our learning and working environments in the best interest of student and staff well-being.
